The Centre for Open, Distance and E-Learning was established by the University in September 2020 to coordinate all e-learning activities in the University. Open, Distance and E-Learning is a necessary department in higher learning institutions. In the 21st century, there is a need to enrich and broaden the learning experience of all students and lecturers within the University. This is the alternative of face-to-face teaching and learning.
The Centre for Open, Distance and E-Learning takes advantage of technology so as to ensure teaching and learning continues in a flexible and effective manner. This is achieved through various online resources (Big Blue Button on the LMS, KENET, and other software) and this mode of teaching and learning offers both students and lecturers an opportunity to interact via different online platforms. Through the LMS, you shall be able to access course outlines, e-notes, videos, case studies, and journal articles. Assessment of students through assignments and CATs are also conducted.
The Centre serves and supports all schools in the institution therefore, making it the central focus of the Academic Student Affairs Division if not the whole University because of its unique role of using innovation to teach and learn. During the Covid-19 epidemic era, all Schools in Machakos University relied on ODeL so as to have continued studies. The institution was able to teach their students and graduate them virtually due to the coordination and collaboration of all stakeholders.
